Our workshop covers the events that led to Battles of Fulford Gate, Stamford Bridge, and Hastings, from the perspectives of Harald Hardrada, King Harold II, and William of Normandy.
We explore both the positive, aggressive moves made by all sides, as well as the mistakes that were made. Using our stunning collection, we examine the differences and similarities between the clothing, weaponry, armour, and equipment of the Saxons, Vikings, and Normans.
Your pupils will be astonished at the weight of swords, shields, helmets and mail, and will have the opportunity to carry out shield and spear drill.
At the end of the session, we get the children to think about what they would have done if they had been in Harold's shoes; with pupils coming up with their own ideas on how to beat the Normans!
The day includes a awe-inspiring bow demonstration, if time and school space permits.
